More pet food recalls

I'll say it - stay away from ANYTHING made in China
mr 25 % does not care - nor does China...all they want is your money!

WalMart - sorry but if you go for cheap - you get less safe products
Tests on two brands of dog treats sold at Wal-Mart stores in the U.S. have shown the pet food contains traces of melamine — the same industrial chemical that caused an earlier recall of pet food products across North America in March.

Company spokeswoman Deisha Galberth said Tuesday that 17 tests confirmed the presence of the industrial chemical in Chicken Jerky Strips from Import-Pingyang Pet Product Co. and Chicken Jerky from Shanghai Bestro Trading. The pet food was not sold in Canada.

Customer complaints about the products prompted Wal-Mart to pull the product from its store shelves in the U.S. in July. Company officials said they did not issue a recall of the product until testing could be completed.

And if your pets eat Krasdale Gravy - read on:

FRANKLIN, Tenn. (AP) _ Some bags of Krasdale Gravy dry dog food may be contaminated with salmonella, which could affect both pets and their owners, Mars Petcare U.S., Inc. announced Tuesday. The company is recalling the product and asking pet owners who purchased it to throw it away and bring the bags in for a refund.

The new recall applies to five-pound bags of dog food sold in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania with the UPC code 7513062596 and a "best by" date of July 16, 2008 or July 17, 2008, according to a news release from the company.

More about the bad pet food

A few additional foods are being recalled; lawsuits are springing up and people are worried with good reason.

It seems that the wheat gluten in the dog food contained melamine...used in making plastic!

An aside here - plastic is becoming more well known as a major source of "much badness." In San Francisco, the Board of Supervisors approved legislation this past Tuesday "to outlaw plastic checkout bags at large supermarkets in about six months and large chain pharmacies in about a year."

HERE is a CNN article about recent recalls and if you are in Oregon, HERE is a link to a local article that includes Oregon and FDA links for more information.

Some news sources suggest checking your dry pet food for what gluten - I just did and feel a lot better - none there!

More re pet food and lack of FDA inspectors

Another f..ing unbelieveable!

They knew about the bad pet food on February 20th!

From the CBC website: full story HERE

The investigation is focusing on wheat gluten used at two U.S. plants as the likely source of contamination.

The FDA first learned of a potential problem after receiving complaints on Feb. 20 and followed up by feeding the "cuts and gravy" product to 40 to 50 cats. Of those, seven animals died, said Stephen Sundlof, the FDA's top veterinarian. He added the contamination appeared more deadly to cats than to dogs.

I love my pets and my food is not on the list - and I don't feed pouches and/or wet food to them.

Turns out the the bad stuff most likely comes from two US plants - not the Canadian manufacturer..interesting?

We live in a country where people food is bad and pet food is bade...any connection to an administration that has curtailed inspections of food? Hmmmmm

More that needs investigating - but we know that democrats can multitask and do more than who-knows-how-many investigations at the same time.

FDA food-safety inspections steadily decreasing

By Andrew Bridges and Seth Borenstein

The Associated Press

WASHINGTON — The federal agency that has been front and center in warning the public about tainted spinach and contaminated peanut butter is conducting just half the food-safety inspections it did three years ago.

The cuts by the Food and Drug Administration come despite a barrage of high-profile food recalls.

"We have a food-safety crisis on the horizon," said Michael Doyle, director of the Center for Food Safety at the University of Georgia.

Between 2003 and 2006, FDA food-safety inspections dropped 47 percent, according to a database analysis of federal records by The Associated Press.

Guess we should start asking who knew about all this bad food and when did they know it?
