No rant - just star gazing

I love these "heavenly" phenomena - when one can see them it is not to be missed. Here is some brief info and a link for more ..

The next meteor shower is the Perseids on August 12. This year there’s no moonlight to interfere. The best time to watch is from 11 p.m. August 12 until dawn the next morning. The best direction to watch is wherever your sky is darkest. If you have a dark sky, you may see a meteor once a minute on average. The shower is also active for several days before and after its peak.

More info here from StarDate: http://stardate.org/nightsky/meteors/

Enjoy these showers....

Primary season

It's beginning to be a joke.

Every time one state moves their primary up to be ahead of someone else - another state moves ahead well - solely to be ahead.

Iowa and NH have laws [really] that those states must do their "thing" first...ahead of all others. NH has a primary; Iowa has caucuses.

Don't plan on putting any of these on your calendar in ink as they will certainly change...and watch out - the fist vote may be coming sooner than you think..like this Fall?

anyone want to bet on when the first vote will happen?

Out here in Oregon we have a late May primary..wonder who will still be around in terms of candidates? Cold prove to be an interesting set of late primaries in those states not jumping for being among the first...

What is next?

With all the "odd" things going on of late - I can't believe there are still some who:

1- believe king george has the country's interests at "heart"
2- believe there is no global warming

Bridges collapse due to lack of money to fix
NYC just got hit by a tornado and so much rain it flooded the subway system
NY sewer pipes are exploding
Glaciers on western mountains are disappearing
Hurricanes are worse
New England is hotter
There seem to be more really bad storms in Texas, Oklahoma and those parts

Next I expect to hear about tunnels and more bridges falling apart.....because there is NO money for infrastructure - it goes to Iraq and rich people tax breaks!

August 6, 1945

Do you know what day this was? It was the day we, the USA, dropped a nuclear bomb on Hiroshima, Japan - ushering in the era of nuclear idiocy...

We are still the only country that has bombed a major city...a populated city...yes others have dropped smaller bombs but we are macho Americans - we kill in larger numbers with material that goes on killing for centuries.

Was the bombing of Hiroshima on the front of your local newspaper yesterday?

How quickly we forget or how quickly we hesitate to remind readers what terrible people we had become...

"Trust us"

This Administration wants all of us to trust them and just believe they are doing the "right" thing...well the only thing I trust about king george and his policies is that he will continue to harm the world and it's citizens.....

This from today's news:

The US has lost track of about 190,000 weapons issued to Iraqi security forces since the 2003 invasion, some of which will have ended up in the hands of insurgents, according to an official report published in Washington. Among the missing items are AK-47 rifles, pistols, body armour and helmets.

The disclosure adds to the picture of the chaotic and clumsy administration of Iraq that has emerged over the last four years. The report, by the government accountability office, which sent its report to Congress last week, found a 30% gap between the number of weapons issued to Iraqi forces and records held by US forces in Iraq. No one in the Bush administration knows where the weapons are now. [emphasis mine- LD]

Gee - I wonder where those weapons are? Gosh - who would have thought? Oops - Who could have imagined?

[That's more lost guns than soldiers in Iraq ....just for those in DC who can not remember how to add or to count... ]
