Obama Supports Merkley
No matter what GS says - Obama and Wyden support Jeff Merkley...
Here is an ad Obama made for Jeff
It's Hard to Rant Today :-)
It's also hard to not smirk, smile with glee or jump for joy!
Here is Ozymandias by Percy Bysshe Shelley
I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them on the sand,
Half sunk, a shatter'd visage lies, whose frown
And wrinkled lip and sneer of cold command
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamp'd on these lifeless things,
The hand that mock'd them and the heart that fed.
And on the pedestal these words appear:
"My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!"
Nothing beside remains: round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare,
The lone and level sands stretch far away.

Why Bloggers Rock!
The local "news" paper came out screaming that Darcy lied about her Harvard degree. She didn't [Harvard has oddities no other college has] and this was most likely a faux noise/R campaign to discredit her.
But - as I've said before - I'm a psychologist and when R's start saying "someone did that" - it usually means they are projecting their own whatever onto someone else.
Well in this case - the R DOES NOT have the degree he said he had - and he quickly re-did his congressional page [oops]
So the R was caught in his own projection!!!

Anti-American Congresspeople
I'll start with my definition of anti-American.
1. People who do not believe in free speech or who never read the Constitution.
2. People who not understand what the role of the vice president is.
3. People who name call and us divisive tactics.
4. People who are proud of their party's sleaze campaign.
add you own criteria in the comments...
Who fits this definition? My list starts here.......and this is just off the top of my head
MN Rep. Michelle Bachmann
AK Sarah Palin [I know - she's not in congress]
N.C. Rep. Robin Hayes
AZ Sen. John McCain

Oregon Ballot Measures
I got my ballot yesterday and am taking it to a drop box today..
In spite of what the Oregonian and have said about ballot measures - our mantra has been as below - the 1st 4 and no more. Bill Sizemore and his out of state moneyman should not be telling Oregonians how to live! If it's a Sizemore or other non-legislative initiative - it's generally safest and less expensive to just say NO.....
Here is a blurb from Defend Oregon.....
Ballot Measures Made Easy!
Now that ballots have arrived, it's time to start marking in your votes on the 2008 state ballot measures. Just in time, the 2008 Defend Oregon Voter Guide has arrived to make those decisions easy. Click here to download the pdf.
Several of the state's most prominent organizations have weighed in on the measures, and their position is listed on each measure. The groups in the voter guide include Oregon PTA, Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon, Basic Rights Oregon, and League of Women Voters of Oregon.
Defend Oregon's position is simple and straightforward: On Measures 54 through 64, Vote for the FIRST FOUR AND NO MORE. Help spread the word and this valuable voter's guide to all your friends!
The stakes on these ballot measures are so high that it's vital all Oregonians understand the impact they would have. Don't let your friends be fooled by Racketeer Bill Sizemore!

McCain and Social Security
From today's The Progress Report
McCAIN HAS ALWAYS WANTED TO CUT MEDICARE SPENDING: Speaking to the Wall Street Journal this month, Holtz-Eakin claimed that "the campaign has always planned to fund the tax credits, in part, with savings from Medicare and Medicaid." Though Holtz-Eakin's revelation was new, it was not out of line with past statements from the McCain campaign. After its health care plan was released, the McCain campaign said that it planned to "reduce the growth in Medicare spending." McCain advisers reiterated the goal this past weekend, saying that the senator would force Congress to "control the growth" of Medicare spending. In fact, throughout his career, h has regularly supported slashing Medicare benefits and limiting eligibility. He has voted to cut, restrict or underfund Medicare at least 28 times while voting to restrict access to Medicare at least two times. In 1997, McCain voted in favor of raising the eligibility age for receiving Medicare from 65 to 67 with the change being phased in between 2003 and 2027. McCain has also voted against Medicare's future by opposing efforts to extend its solvency at least nine times.I doubt most progressives are surprised by this - McSame IS a republic...he votes republic ...and republics HATE Social Security and all other programs put into place by a Democrat...especially FDR!!!!

A Joe McCarthy Clone
Her comments remind me of the HUAC hearings from the 1950's.
Here is a good reply that would work for Bachmann
One fun upside of this is that her Democratic opponent, Tinklenberg, raised over $700,000 and the DCCC is now investing in that race [MN-06]. She needs to lose and ose big time...her kind of rhetoric is not healthy for our country!

To My Oregon Readers
From the Merkley campaign:
National news outlets have widely reported on a smear campaign against Barack Obama and Democrats. The Republican National Committee and the McCain/Palin campaign are sending robocalls across the country that suggest, among other things, that Barack Obama is a terrorist.
While several Republican Senate candidates have already called for these calls to stop, one has not: Gordon Smith.
We may know why. Public campaign finance reports show that Gordon Smith employs the same firm conducting these shady robocalls. Public records show that Gordon Smith has spent nearly $100,000 on FLS Connect to conduct calling on his behalf. In addition, the Oregon Republican Party owes FLS Connect over $40,000.
This robocalling firm is headed up by several former Bush operatives with close ties to Karl Rove. These robocalls are just one of the many things George W. Bush and his lieutenants are doing to re-elect Gordon Smith, who is a reliable supporter of Bush policies.
There have already been news reports of push-polling in Oregon on behalf of Smith. And it was reported this week that Karl Rove is heading up a group that has spent over $2 million helping Gordon Smith. Now we are starting to receive calls from supporters about robocalls attacking Jeff Merkley
We are asking you and our other supporters to report any robocall or push-poll you receive which attacks Jeff Merkley. If you receive such a call, do not hang up the phone. Then, record the time, date, and the message, and call our office at (503) 274-4439 or e-mail the campaign. Please spread the word to your friends and neighbors about these shady tactics.
Together, we can overcome these swift boat tactics and bring Oregon the change it deserves.
Sincerely,
Jon Isaacs, Campaign Manager
Jeff Merkley for Oregon
