Two takes on Gonzo

This from one who lives inside a bubble inside his own head inside the WH:

“It is sad that we live in a time when a talented and honorable person like Alberto Gonzales is impeded from doing important work because his good name was dragged through the mud for political reasons,” Bush said at a press conference in Crawford, Texas.

The President praised Gonzales for his “integrity, decency and principle.” He added that in his two and a half years as attorney general, Gonzales “has played a critical role in shaping our policies and the war on terror and has worked tirelessly to make this country safer.”

This from Sidney Blumenthal:

In the weeks leading up to his resignation, Gonzales was undoubtedly aware of the various investigations into his activities, the avenues being pursued and the witnesses questioned, not all of them in public. As a practiced attorney, he knew that once he left government service he would become less interesting to investigators and that whatever revelations were unearthed would have less political impact. The logic of his resignation became indisputable from his own narrow interest and the larger interest of the administration. But the resignation of Rove severed his lifeline to his political control agent. Without Rove, Gonzales was adrift.

From the beginning of his rise with George W. Bush until the day of his abrupt resignation, Alberto Gonzales was anointed, directed and protected by Karl Rove. At the Department of Justice, Gonzales served as Rove's figurehead. In the real line of authority, the attorney general, a constitutional officer, reported to the White House political aide. Bush did not nickname Gonzales "Fredo," after the weak brother in "The Godfather," without reason.

Another rat leaves the sinking ship

This rat, though, was one of the persons who caused the damage that made the ship sink..

Gonzo is gone! Well going - he's sticking around til mid September - probably gets some sort of monetary reward or retirement packages for being there til then...

In this Administration, the only two originals left standing [call them captains if you must] that will stay on this sinking ship til the end - are Bush and Cheney...

I'll have to go back and see if other originals are left but my recall is that they are gone. Of course the replacements are just as bad but what do you expect . This is the Admin that can't speak truth, can't help but lie, tortures, kills, maims, and threatens and all who support it agree with those as basic American principles...

Having lived in D.C. for so many years, I have good friends who worked at the DOJ - good attorneys who wanted nothing more than to protect us and the Constitution....they were non-partisan in their work and they were passionate about their jobs.

Most have now retired - but Ia can almost guess they are sitting with huge grins on their faces right now...but also wondering if the department they loved so much can ever again garner the trust of the people that it once had.

One down - a few more to go

Poor Wolfie - he is resigning as of June 30th...... Anyone feel sorry for him?

Next we need the bush crime family attorney to go - his name is Gonzo - he of visits to hospitalized Atty generals to try and force a signature on illegal activity...

Then we need the commander guy and darth vader to go..

I was thinking yesterday - that the only thing that would surprise me right now is someone in the administration saying anything truthful...and that's sad....
